Description
The Ford F-150 SVT Lightning was a high-performance version of the F-150 pickup truck built by Ford’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT) from 1993 to 1995 and again from 1999 to 2004. The Lightning was designed to be a street-legal performance truck that could also handle everyday use.
The 1999 model year marked the first significant redesign of the Lightning since its introduction in 1993. The new Lightning was based on the redesigned F-150 and featured a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 engine producing 360 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque. The engine was mated to a four-speed automatic transmission with a heavy-duty torque converter and a rear-wheel-drive layout.
The Lightning’s performance was impressive for a pickup truck, with a 0-60 mph time of just 5.8 seconds and a top speed of 142 mph. It also featured sport-tuned suspension, high-performance brakes, and 18-inch wheels with Goodyear Eagle F1 tires.
Inside, the Lightning featured leather-trimmed sport seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a premium audio system.
The 1999 Lightning was only available as a regular cab, short bed configuration with a stepside bed. It was offered in four exterior colors: black, red, silver, and white.
The 1999 Lightning was a popular vehicle among truck enthusiasts, and it helped pave the way for the high-performance pickup trucks of today. It was also the last Lightning model until its return in 2001.
