Description

The Chevrolet Impala has a long history in NASCAR racing, beginning in the late 1950s. In the modern era, the Impala has been used in NASCAR’s top series, now known as the Cup Series, from 2007 to 2012.

The seventh-generation Impala was introduced in 2006, and it was the first Impala to be used in NASCAR since 1996. The Impala SS model was used as the basis for the race car, which was powered by a carbureted 5.7-liter V8 engine. The Impala SS proved to be competitive, winning races and championships in the hands of drivers like Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, and Tony Stewart.

In 2013, NASCAR introduced a new set of rules that required teams to use a “Gen-6” car, which was designed to better resemble the production version of the cars. As a result, the Impala was replaced by the Chevrolet SS, which was based on the Australian Holden Commodore. The SS was used in NASCAR until 2017, when it was replaced by the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.
