Description

The Peugeot 9X8 is the French manufacturer’s radical entry into the Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) class, unveiled in July 2021 to compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). Developed in partnership with Peugeot Sport and WRC/Formula 1 engineers, the 9X8 is a hybrid prototype featuring a 2.6-liter twin-turbo V6 engine powering the rear wheels, coupled with a front-axle electric motor. This combination produces around 680–700 horsepower, making it capable of extreme performance while complying with LMH regulations.

What immediately set the 9X8 apart was its striking, spoiler-free design, breaking with decades of conventional aerodynamic formulas in endurance racing. Peugeot engineers focused on innovation, using advanced hybrid systems, lightweight carbon construction, and sophisticated aerodynamics to maximize speed, efficiency, and reliability in 24-hour racing conditions.

The 9X8 made its competitive debut in 2022 and quickly demonstrated competitiveness, securing podium finishes and demonstrating Peugeot’s engineering prowess after a long hiatus from top-level sports prototype racing. It represents a bold statement of Peugeot’s vision for modern endurance racing: blending sustainability, hybrid performance, and daring design into a machine built to challenge Toyota, Ferrari, and other hypercar rivals on the world stage.
