The Mazda RX-7 SA was the first generation of the RX-7 sports car, which was produced from 1978 to 1985. The SA model was introduced in 1978 and was powered by a 1.1-liter rotary engine, which was later upgraded to a 1.3-liter engine. The car was praised for its handling and performance, and it won the 1981 and 1982 IMSA GTU championships. The RX-7 SA was also popular among enthusiasts for its light weight, agile handling, and distinctive styling, which featured a long hood and a sloping rear roofline. It was succeeded by the second-generation RX-7 in 1985.
