It was a larger, more powerful and more luxurious version of the Volkswagen Beetle, with a distinctive square-shaped rear end. The 1969 model year saw the introduction of the Type 3’s second generation, which featured a revised body design, improved suspension, and a more powerful engine. The 1969 Squareback was available with a 1.6L flat-four engine producing 65 horsepower, paired with a four-speed manual transmission. It was popular for its practicality and versatility, as well as its unique design.
