Description
The BMW M1 is a mid-engined sports car that was produced by the German automaker BMW from 1978 to 1981. It was developed in partnership with Lamborghini, who was originally contracted to build the car but ultimately only produced some of the prototypes before financial difficulties forced BMW to take over production. The M1 was designed as a homologation special for the Group 4 racing series and was powered by a 3.5-liter inline-six engine that produced up to 277 horsepower. It featured a distinctive wedge-shaped body and was one of the first cars to use a tubular spaceframe chassis, which allowed for a low overall weight and excellent handling. Only 453 examples of the BMW M1 were produced, making it a rare and sought-after collector’s car.
