Description
The Ford RS200 is a mid-engined rally car that was built between 1984 and 1986 as part of Ford’s Group B rally program. Only 200 road-going versions were built in order to satisfy homologation requirements. The car was designed by Ghia and featured a mid-mounted 1.8-liter turbocharged engine that produced up to 450 horsepower. The RS200’s all-wheel drive system and advanced suspension made it a dominant force in rally racing.
The RS200 was built in Ford’s factory in England and utilized advanced materials such as aluminum and Kevlar to keep weight down. It was capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in under 4 seconds and could reach a top speed of over 140 mph. The RS200’s styling was unique and instantly recognizable, with a long, low hood and a large rear wing.
Unfortunately, the RS200’s success was short-lived due to the cancellation of Group B rallying in 1986. The car’s rally career ended abruptly and the planned road-going versions were never fully realized. However, the RS200 remains a legendary and highly sought-after car among enthusiasts and collectors alike.
