Description

In the year 2000, the Indy Racing League (IRL) became the sole sanctioned body for top-level open-wheel racing in the United States, and the Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) was dissolved.

From 2000 onwards, IndyCar racing saw the introduction of several notable changes, including the introduction of a new spec chassis in 2003 and a new spec engine formula in 2012. In 2008, the IndyCar Series and Champ Car World Series merged, and the resulting series was renamed the IndyCar Series.

During this time, several notable drivers competed in the series, including Juan Pablo Montoya, Danica Patrick, Dario Franchitti, Scott Dixon, and Will Power. Some of the most successful teams during this era include Chip Ganassi Racing, Team Penske, and Andretti Autosport.

In recent years, IndyCar has also seen a rise in popularity and competitiveness, with close racing and multiple winners in each season. The series has also introduced new events, including street course races in Toronto and Long Beach and oval races at Iowa Speedway and Gateway Motorsports Park.
