Description
Unveiled in January 2022, the Gordon Murray Automotive T.33 represents the second road car developed by legendary Formula 1 designer Gordon Murray, following the T.50. Where the T.50 pursued extreme purity and driver focus, the T.33 was conceived as a slightly more “usable” grand-touring interpretation — while still embodying Murray’s obsession with lightness, engineering elegance, and analog connection.
Built around GMA’s super-light carbon/aluminum iStream platform, the T.33 is powered by a bespoke, naturally aspirated 3.9-liter Cosworth V12 — revving to 11,100 rpm — tuned for broader drivability compared to the T.50. Customers could choose a six-speed manual or automated manual gearbox, reinforcing its driver-first philosophy. Murray intentionally rejected hybrid systems, big screens, and electronic gimmicks, favoring tactile controls and minimalist instrumentation.
Stylistically, the T.33 blends classic ’60s/’70s sports-car proportions with modern aerodynamics. Unlike the T.50’s fan-based aero system, the T.33 employs subtle ground-effect solutions, prioritizing simplicity and elegance over theatrical technology. Production is strictly limited to 100 coupes (later joined by the T.33 Spider), each hand-built in the UK.
The T.33 quickly became celebrated as a rare modern supercar built on old-school principles: light, compact, naturally aspirated, and engineered around human feel rather than pure numbers. In many ways, it continues Murray’s lifelong mission — to prove that true performance isn’t about excess, but about less, done brilliantly.
