Description
The 1998 Porsche 911 GT1 is a race car designed for the FIA GT1 class. It was based on the Porsche 911 (993) and had a mid-engine layout with a twin-turbocharged flat-six engine that produced around 600 horsepower. The GT1 had a carbon fiber monocoque chassis and a highly advanced aerodynamics package with a large rear wing and underbody diffusers.
The 911 GT1 had a successful racing career, winning the 1998 24 Hours of Le Mans and the FIA GT Championship in the same year. The car continued to be competitive in endurance racing until it was replaced by the Porsche 911 GT3 R in 2000. A total of only 14 GT1 race cars were produced by Porsche, making it a highly sought-after collector’s item.
