The Chevy Vega was a subcompact car produced by General Motors’ Chevrolet division from 1970 to 1977. It was available in a variety of body styles including a two-door coupe, a hatchback, and a station wagon. In 1975, Chevy released a V8-powered version of the Vega called the Cosworth Vega, but it was short-lived due to poor sales.
However, there were also some other V8-powered Vegas that were created outside of the official GM production line. One of these was the Chevy Vega V8, which was a custom conversion created by Dick Gulstrand and his team in the early 1970s. Gulstrand was a former race car driver and a renowned builder of custom vehicles.
The Chevy Vega V8 was powered by a 350-cubic inch small-block V8 engine, which was a popular choice for hot-rodders at the time. The engine was paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, and the car also featured a custom suspension system, upgraded brakes, and other modifications to handle the added power.
While there were only a handful of Chevy Vega V8s built, they gained a reputation as being one of the fastest and most powerful subcompact cars of their time. They were also known for their unique look, with a custom hood scoop and side pipes that made them stand out from other Vegas on the road.
Today, the Chevy Vega V8 is a rare and sought-after collector’s item for fans of vintage hot rods and custom cars.
