Description

The Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti Super, introduced in 1963, was the competition-homologation version of the Giulia Ti sedan — created specifically to take Alfa back to the front of European touring-car racing. Built in very limited numbers (around 501 examples, just enough for FIA Group 2 homologation), it transformed an elegant family saloon into a lightweight, track-focused machine.

To save weight, Alfa replaced body panels with thinner steel, removed trim, simplified interiors, added plastic windows in some cases, and fitted lightweight bucket seats. Under the hood, the familiar 1.6-liter twin-cam four was upgraded to roughly 112–115 hp, breathing through dual Weber carburetors and paired to a close-ratio gearbox. Disc brakes on all four wheels and suspension tuning made it agile and competitive.

Visually subtle, the Ti Super is most easily identified by its quadrifoglio (four-leaf clover) racing badges, unique steel wheels, and modest yet purposeful stance. On the track, it proved immediately successful, earning class wins across European touring-car championships and reinforcing Alfa Romeo’s reputation for building fast, soulful sedans.

Produced only through 1964, the Giulia Ti Super became one of the rarest and most coveted performance Alfas. It laid the groundwork for later sport sedans — and helped cement the idea that a practical four-door could be every bit as thrilling as a sports car.
