Description
The Volkswagen Golf Country was a rugged, off-road version of the popular Golf hatchback. It was produced from 1990 to 1991, and only about 7,000 were made. The Golf Country was equipped with a raised suspension, skid plates, and an all-wheel-drive system that could be engaged on the fly. It was powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that produced 97 horsepower and 103 lb-ft of torque, paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The Golf Country had a unique appearance, with plastic cladding on the lower body panels and wheel arches, as well as a spare tire mounted on the rear hatch. Despite its off-road capability, the Golf Country was not a huge commercial success, but it has gained a cult following among enthusiasts.
