The Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk2 was a hot hatchback produced by Volkswagen from 1983 to 1992. It was an evolution of the original Golf GTI and was powered by a 1.8-liter, 8-valve inline-four engine that produced 112 horsepower in its early years, later revised to 134 hp in the 16-valve version. It was available with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The GTI Mk2 also introduced various improvements to the handling, suspension, and braking systems, making it a popular choice for drivers looking for a sporty and practical car. Its popularity led to the creation of the Volkswagen Driver’s Cup race series, which featured modified GTI Mk2s. The GTI Mk2 was succeeded by the GTI Mk3 in 1992.
